SMALL TALK JUST WON'T CUT IT

Thought Adjuster: “Let us talk about the prerequisites for a great connection. As you long to establish a genuine relationship with Spirit, you are becoming more and more aware that ‘small talk won’t cut it.’ Indeed, you know what I am talking about. You have attended many social events where the conversations were superficial and left you unfulfilled, as they did not suffice to build a heart-to-heart bridge between the interlocutors.

“Many among you approach Spirit exhibiting such a social behavior—what they consider as ‘religiously correct.’ They follow the religious etiquette that has been ingrained in them by their elders. They are ‘polite’ and yet, such good manners fail to swing wide-open the access door to Spirit.

“Spirit interacts with your spirit. What do you express when you pray? Do you come from your head or from your heart? Do you speak out of a sense of duty in order to appease what you call your conscience? Or do you express whatever bubbles up in your heart as does a little one, happily recounting the occurrences of his day to his parents—fully and genuinely sharing of himself, without holding anything back?

“Surely, the second behavior is the one that brings a smile to the parental faces and warms their heart. Do not hold back with Spirit! You do not have to hide behind pious behaviors. Rather, Spirit would by far prefer for you to be ‘impish’ as long as you are yourself. All that you need to do is speak truthfully and ask for constructive feedback. This is what Spirit does. Spirit ‘inspires.’

“Dear ones, initiate a spontaneous relationship with Spirit. When you are spontaneous, you are yourself. Just as others open up to you when you let down your guard and take a chance to share more in depth of yourself, Spirit will not remain aloof and out of your reach. It never is. It is only your perception, as you project your own aloofness onto Spirit. Do give it a try and you will come to ‘know’ what I am speaking about. This will be the most effective ice-breaker for our eternal relationship. Small talk will turn into lengthy heart-to-heart conversations and you will keep coming back for more.”
