ABOUT OATHS AND VOWS
Thought Adjuster: “The thought came to your mind that there is a difference between taking an oath or making a vow. Indeed, there is. An oath is a sworn commitment to abide by certain rules of conduct. In your society, those who are appointed to public service are taking what should be the ‘solemn’ oath of conducting themselves with integrity and performing their entrusted duties on behalf ofthose they represent. Therefore, the breach of an oath is not to be taken lightly, as it affects the livelihood of many and is a well a serious breach of their trust.
“What about vows? Vows are made at a different level. They have much to do with the formulation of personal intentions and the taking of resolutions. They can have personal growth-promoting effects if your expressed intention is to rid yourself of bad habits, and such. Sadly, if your willpower is activated to bring harm to someone, the vows to take vengeance and ‘to get even’ will be detrimental to all parties. From this, you can see that there are ‘sacred’ vows and ‘profane’ ones.
“Frequently, partners who enter into a committed relationship seal it by taking heartfelt vows of fidelity, loyalty, mutual loving service, and more. Such vows are meant to support their relationship whenever they encounter some bumps along their relational route, thus becoming the Northern Star of their relationship, helping them to correct their emotional course whenever some turbulences may momentarily separate them.
“Dear ones, in your budding relationship with your Indwelling Divine Fragment, take the time to ‘write your vows’ and, just as some married couples ceremoniously ‘renew their wedding vows’, thus reinforcing their mutual commitment, daily renew your sacred vows toward your Divine Soulmate—the One that dwells within you and took His commitment to you to the highest level by taking the ‘Sacred Oath’ of taking you back all the way to Paradise. Such a Holy Oath should be a great source of comfort whenever you fall prey to doubt, as its language excludes the ‘till death us part’ caveat.”
