The Inner Sherpa

Poem

I'LL LEAVE MY PORCH LIGHT ON

I LEAVE THE PORCH LIGHT ON

Lord, I leave the porch light on

Should you happen to pass by in the middle of the night.

Shake the dust off your shoes on my brand-new doormat

That reads, “Welcome, Friends.”

I turned the TV off to be able to hear the cadence of your steps

And your knock at my door.

The King-size bed is made in my pretty guestroom:

Fresh sheets, soft pillows, and a down comforter.

No longer should you have to lay your weary head on the spartan ground.

Lord, I have food in my pantry and fresh running water.

I will cook for you no matter what the hour…

Please stop by and do tarry with me for a while.
