ABOUT THE SPIRITUAL LEGAL SYSTEM.
"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.” Mathew 5:17
“But before you try to enter into the new light, should you not rather follow the light you already have? Moses gave you the law, yet how many of you honestly seek to fulfillits demands?” [UB 162, 2:1]
Thought Adjuster: “There is a fine linebetween ‘following’ the law and ‘fulfilling’ it—the crossing of a significant spiritual threshold. Looking at it from this perspective, you come to understand that the initial spiritual ‘legal system’ of the ‘thou-shall-not’ type was a necessary prefacetoward its ‘thou-shall’ upgraded version that shifted the motivations of ‘law-abiding citizens’ from the uncomfortable deterrent of fear of punishment to the positive reinforcement resulting from right-doing.
“In order to avoid the 24/7 occurrence of troubles in gang-infested neighborhoods, strict curfews have to be enforced. At the same time, ‘good citizenship’ programs have to be offered to the populace to educate them. Those whose behaviors improve earn some privileges that extend the range of their personal liberties. This is a step forward in their spiritual growth, as they know the law, freely adhere to it, and, thus doing, are rewarded by personal gains.
“Jesus did not come to abolish the spiritual laws, as divine laws are absolute and not subject to change. However, He came to reveal their upgraded version, so that well-meaning men and women come to embody the divine law by becoming perfect—thus “accomplishing its purpose”.
“Weak spiritual behaviors have to be strengthened. Good habits have to be formed in order to yield good spiritual fruits--the positive enticements of the law. By adhering to the divine ‘legal’ path, you will embody the law—as Jesus did.”
